THE ANOINTED or THE CHRIST

Text: Acts 4:27

Acts 4:27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the
people of Israel, were gathered together,

Introduction: In these scriptures we have another example of how words may be defined and understood by comparing scripture with scripture, without the use of a lexicon or even an English dictionary.
    The Holy Ghost substituted the word "Christ" in Acts 4:26 for the word "anointed" in Ps. 2.2. In our text, Acts 4:27, the Bible further explains that the word "Christ" means anointed:
    Acts 4:27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
    Tonight I want to bring a message on our Savior as THE ANOINTED

I. JESUS WAS ANOINTED TO A POSITION

1 Samuel 15:1 Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.

    A. As the Son of God

    B. As the Savior of men

    C. As the Sovereign for the future

II. JESUS WAS ANOINTED WITH PURITY

Exodus 30:25 And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

    A. His deeds were pure

    B. His doctrine was pure

    C. His desires were pure

    D. His decisions were pure

III. JESUS WAS ANOINTED WITH POWER

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

    A. To reward faith - healing, restoring sight, raising the dead, etc.

    B. To rebuke evil - money changers in the temple, Pharisees, devils, etc.

IV. JESUS WAS ANOINTED FOR PREACHING

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

    A. With faith in the Bible

    B. With fearlessness

V. JESUS WAS ANOINTED FOR PROTECTION

1 Chronicles 16:22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

    A. At His birth

    B. In His boyhood

    C. In His battles with Satan
