WHO IS THE SEED OF THE WOMAN?

Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:1-19

Text: Genesis 3:15

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Introduction: In general the Bible genealogies are recorded through the lineage of the man, not the woman. As far as I know there is no mention of the seed of Eve, the seed of Sarah, the seed of Rebekah, or the seed of Rachel.

This prophesied seed of the woman is a special Person, the most special Person of the entire Bible, of time and eternity, the God-man, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

"thy seed"? The seed of the woman? I'll tell you who this promised seed is:

I. HE IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SUPERNATURAL (He is the WORD)

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

"... and her seed ..."

Luke 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

A. The virgin birth would be scoffed at by unbelievers

 
• Unbelieving sinners who resist salvation
 
• Unbelieving scholars in liberal seminaries, teaching in Christ's name

B. The virgin birth would be a sign to Israel

 
• Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall   conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
 
• Many of the new "bibles" have changed the words "a virgin" to "a young woman" or "a maiden"

C. The virgin birth would be the secret to our salvation

 
• See 1 Tim. 3:16 above
 
• 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
 
• Job 9:33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

II. HE IS THE ADVERSARY OF THE SERPENT

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

"... and between thy seed and her seed ..."

A. Satan resisted Christ at His birth

 
• Matthew 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding  wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the oasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

B. Satan resisted Christ at the beginning of His public ministry

 
• Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

C. Satan resisted Christ at His burial and resurrection

 
• John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: or he is a liar, and the father of it.
 
• He led his children to guard the tomb.
 
• As the father of the lie, he led his followers to lie about the resurrection of Christ.
 
• He leads liberals in seminaries to deny the resurrection of Christ today.

D. Satan resists Christ at the bearing of the gospel today

 
• 1. 1 Thessalonians 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

E. Satan will resist Christ at His bringing in of the kingdom - Revelation 19:19-20:3

F. Satan will resist Christ at the battle of God and Magog - Revelation 20:7-10

 
• It is at this time that the saying of Gen. 3:15 will be fulfilled: "... it shall          bruise thy head ..."
 
• Romans 16:20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The    grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

III. HE IS THE ANSWER TO SIN

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Adam and Eve were in a mess. In Paradise, they had chosen wickedness. Between God's commands and Satan's lies, they had chosen Satan. Only the Savior, the Last Adam, the seed of the woman, could make right what Adam and Eve had made wrong.

A. He did this by a special birth

 
• Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
 
• Only by GOD and His power could not only a virgin birth take place, but that the birth could be of a sinful woman, Mary, producing a sinless Savior, JESUS!

B. He did this by a sinless life - 1 Peter 1:18-19

C. He did this by a sacrificial death

 
• 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
 
• Romans 5:6
 
• Galatians 3:13
 
• 2 Corinthians 5:21

D. He did this by a supernatural resurrection

 
• Death couldn't hold Him
 
• Dirt couldn't hold Him
 
• Doubt couldn't hold Him
 
• Denials couldn't hold Him
 
• The DEVIL couldn't hold Him!
 
• Up from the grave He arose!!!
