GLORY IN THE LORD!

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:31

1 Corinthians 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Introduction: The admonition of our text is also found in the second letter Paul wrote to the Corinthians:

2 Corinthians 10:17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

The fact that this commandment is given twice in writing to the most carnal, wicked church of the New Testament should alert us to the connection of the subject with godliness. The only way to be godly, I believe, is to learn to glory in THE LORD, not in YOURSELF.

The word, "glory," when used as a verb, means to rejoice in one's attainments or accomplishments. Pay attention: We should not rejoice in what we have attained in the flesh, but we are to rejoice in what we have attained or accomplished in the Lord. Everything else is vanity. Let me give a few areas tonight in which we can glory in the Lord.

I. LET US GLORY IN THE LORD'S CHRIST

2 Corinthians 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Don't compare yourself with someone else!

A. The LORD saved us

B. The LORD strengthens us

C. The LORD schools us

D. The LORD sustains us

E. The LORD supplies us

F. The LORD steers us

G. The LORD send us

II. LET US GLORY IN THE LORD'S CONVERSION

1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

A. It was HIS consecration that saved us

B. It was HIS crucifixion that saved us

C. It was HIS coming out of that grave that saved us!

D. It was HIS conviction by the Holy Ghost in our hearts that saved us!

E. It was HIS creative work that saved us!

III. LET US GLORY IN THE LORD'S CROSS

Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

A. Let's glory in the Person on the cross

B. Let's glory in the plan of the cross

C. Let's glory in the performance on the cross

D. Let's glory in the preaching of the cross

E. Let's rejoice in the power of the cross

IV. LET US GLORY IN THE LORD'S CALLING

1 Corinthians 1:26-29 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

A. Let's glory in the people of His calling

B. Let's glory in the preparation of His calling

C. Let's glory in the power of His calling

Let's glory in the Lord!
Let's glory in the Lord before the throne!
Let's glory in the Lord before the church!
Let's glory in the Lord before the lost world!
Let people see that our accomplishments are in and through JESUS, and HIM ALONE!
